Les Nymphéas, Monet

Wednesday, 29 November 2017

Some artists move you more than some others. It is funny how much we tend to come back, always, to what we love at first sight. Monet is easy in a sense, everybody knows his paintings, ans I won't be surprised to learn that in some kindergarten they would use its art pieces for 4 years old to be inspired by. Monet is just the name you can throw away when you want to look fancy. Well, I have studied his work, and even after that Monet is still easy for me. I didn't really enjoy studying his art, because it felt like I was loosing all of its poetry. Why would you explain the water lilies? I mean, aren't they enough by themselves?
Yes, I do complain a lot about how studying art history made me lost the candid look that I had on art, but I also have to be honest and thankful. Thanks to art history I saw not only the most well-known water lilies, I also discover the more confidential ones, like the waiting I choose today. And also had the chance to study his garden, to compare, to understand the colors, the shades, the movement. But when I look at this painting I try not to think to much about it. This art work is poetry, I guess that it is a good enough description. Now it is up the you to look at it this way, and maybe Monet would still be an easy reference, but now it will also be one that speaks to your heart.

November Favorite Bag: Chloé Faye Backpack

Saturday, 25 November 2017

A handbag is a girl's best friend. It does carry your life in a stylish way, complete an outfit, upgrade a look. Yet the tricky thing with handbag is that if you want to change your style, you basically have to change your bag. But with the Chloé Faye Backpack, this is not an issue anymore. Obviously, this bag is beautiful, it is Chloé. And this brand knows how to do a it-bag, they have a list of them as long as my arm. And the Faye Backpack is definitely on it. Because it is not only a backpack, it is also a handbag, it is also a shoulder bag, it is practical, but it is elegant, it can make give you sportswear vibes or an elegant style. It is all we love in one piece. As always with Chloé, it is all about the details and their elegance. The assemblage of the material, the work of the shape, the hardware, all of this lead to a dream bag, that you will never want to leave.

The Art of Fashion - Some thoughts on my Research

Wednesday, 22 November 2017

University helps me learn new ways to work everyday, it learns me how to do research, but also how to think by myself, to make up my ideas. This year, for my thesis, I am focusing on fashion, and all of my researches and readings tend to lean towards the same final idea: fashion is not art. I am nobody in this privileged world, and my words do not have any weight, however I am one of the person who does believe that fashion is very close to art. Fashion can be art, who would wear a Dior Couture dress to go shopping? It is not anymore made to be worn, it is made to be exhibited. Hence the growing importance of the Victoria & Albert Museum, hence the Vuitton exhibition in New York, hence all the magnificent coffee table books on fashion and designers. The more I learn on this field, the more I observe the process of creating fashion, but also the process of creating a discourse of fashion, the way fashion appears, where and how it does take roots, the more I believe in a mesmerizing artistic and aesthetic facet of fashion. The work of the craftsmen, the work of the designer, starting from the first drawing, the work of the fashion journalists who decide what is today's fashion, but also the place fashion occupies within our society, makes me want to believe that this field is much more than the superficial world many people see in it. A product of fashion does not have to be seen solely as an utility. We must appreciate the work, the ideas, and the clothes. Fashion might not be admitted within the art world, but as a lover of fashion, I will always look at a Balenziaga couture dress the same way I look at a Renaissance painting. It is not because it is ephemeral that fashion cannot be studied and loved, actually this makes it even more beautiful. You have to see the beauty in it before it fades away.

Birthday Celebrations

Saturday, 18 November 2017

Birthdays always had a lot of importance for me. And here I am not talking about my birthday, but the birthday of people around me. Of all the members of my family, from my mother to my little cousin, but also my friends' birthdays, and mostly my boyfriend's birthday. I put a lot of importance in this celebration. I actually realized that to make him happy became one of my priority. I organize everything well in advance in order to be sure that he will spent an amazing time, I try to plan with his family for us both to be back home on this special day, I spend days looking for the perfect gifts, and to find the perfect words that I will write on his card. It is his 4th birthday that we are spending together - cannot believe we've known each other for so long already - and as usual I want it to be perfect. But this year it does mean even more to me. For my latest birthday, he couldn't be there, and on this day, when I celebrated with my family at home, and when his seat was empty, I realized that I couldn't enjoy this special day without him. And I don't want him to feel the same as I did. It has been a long time we have been together, but it is on those special moments that I realize he is the man I want to spend too many birthdays with, he is the man I want to make happy until the end of times.

Happy Birthday S. ♥︎

Love you, A.

Blogger Style: Negin Mirsalehi

Wednesday, 15 November 2017

Engin Mirsalehi hans't has been a blogger for long, she started her blog only four years ago, but she has already achieved a lot. Her blog, first of all, but also her brand Gisou, which just released its fourth product a week ago. Born in Amsterdam of Iranian parents, Negin cultivated a very interesting still, looking in many directions, and definitely not getting stuck in one type of looks. She tries, and never fails. I had a hard time trying to figure out categories to show you my favorite looks of hers, but I finally found those three headlines that I think sums up pretty well what her style is all about. She has for sure a sexy vibe, yet this is definitely not all that has to be said. A blogger of many facets.

Comfy & Casual

Simple & Effective

Sassy & Sexy

A Day in Poetry IX

Lonely Girl

All alone in my room
I count the crack on the wall
To forget time,
To forget space.

All alone in my room
I watch the clock go by,
Staring at my damaged leg,
Where blood spreads
As minutes go by.

All alone in my home,
I see people I love being alive,
I stalk with jealousy,
Counting the tears on my cheeks.

All alone in his room,
I pretend the knot in my throat is not real,
I pretend the whole in my heart is not there,
I pretend joy,
As I hide my scars from his eyes.

All alone in this town,
I see him happy without me,
I see him not needing me,
And I stare at me in the mirror,
Dying for a him to call me.

All alone in my room,
I watch my phone not ringing,
I notice my legs becoming more and more scared,
I see my blood drying on my tights,
And I loose track of time.

All alone in this world,
I try to disappear.
All alone in my head,
I try to forget who I am.
All alone in my heart,
I know that nobody sees,
Nobody cares.
Nobody knows how well I manage the art of loneliness.

Currently Loving: Fenty Beauty

Saturday, 4 November 2017

Beauty wise, there are two kind of people. The ones who want to try out every single new brand and new product, and the ones who stay faithful to their staple. I am both. I want to try, yet I am not going too far, and never end up buying everything from a brand that just popped out. With Fenty Beauty, I didn't want to buy anything at first. I wasn't so sure about it, and I have quite a problem with celebrities who want to be found in every field. If you are a singer you sing, you do what you know. I don't know why I am so stubborn with that, but I can't help feeling this way. So, well, Fenty Beauty was not a crush at first at first glance. So I waited a little bit for reviews, and well, they were good. Still I was not sure if they were good because it was Rihanna's brand or because the products were actually good. I read some more reviews, and decided to place an order. I then went for the products that really did catch my eye, being the Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick. Its multi use aspect really appealed me, and I ordered it in two shades, 'Confetti' and 'Starstruck'. Promising beautiful names.

Well. I tried it right away when I received it of course. And I think the first thought that came to me was 'I never came accros something like that'. Honestly, I was so positively surprised, I almost wanted to immediately place a new order. The sticks were so perfect for highlighting, but also to use as eye shadow, and on the lips it did look absolutely gorgeous. The formulae was to die for, they were resistant to time but easy to remove, a dream in a stick. I then ordered few other products from the brand, and well I haven't been disappointed. The quality is blatant, the packaging is beautiful, the colors are out there and we love that. She smashed it to be honest. At the moment I am using the foundation - so light and so natural, a dream - the shimmer sticks obviously, and the lip gloss on a daily basis for a glowy and dewy makeup look, but still a sophisticated one. Fonts beauty is definitely a new favorite for me, and I can't wait for the next collections to come out!

Sweater Weather II

Wednesday, 1 November 2017

Fast fashion is going crazy during our era. Zara and other high street brands are changing their collections almost every week, and it starts to be very hard to follow. But I still walk into Zara quite often, even if I am not the biggest fan of the shops which are full of clothes, so many of them that we don't even know where to look at anymore. So when I go, I most of the time browse very quickly and stop only when I notice a piece worth the fight to get it. Few weeks ago, I went in a Zara store in Amsterdam with my boyfriend and crossed path with this beautiful knitwear you see me wearing here. I saw it and unconsciously I thought about how much this purchase could be worth it (even if it was quite pricy for Zara), how coded it was, and how much I loved that.

It is no big news that high street brands are following the trends that we see during fashion weeks, and since two seasons ago now the zodiac patterns and embroideries went back in the trend thanks to the very talented Maria Grazia Chiuri, the designer of Dior. The pieces she designed were absolutely beautiful, and carried an interesting aesthetic story, but as with everything from couture houses, it was only a dream for girls like me. I guess when I saw this knitwear in Zara I instantly related it to this fashion show that I deeply loved. It was coded with all the things girls who want to get into fashion love. The trend was coming straight from Dior, the embroideries are so damn trendy, grey is the color for this autumn winter, and gold is definitely the metal we have to go for at the moment. I knew why I loved it so much when I bought it. I knew those codes behind it, I knew that fast fashion is not the best thing ever, but we do with what we have. So thanks Zara for giving me a little bit of Dior in my life, because when I look at it, I see Maria, not Zara.
